Community Development Plan

A Community Development Plan (CDP) is a comprehensive, time-bound strategic document that details how a mining company intends to invest in and support the development of communities affected by or proximate to its operations. In bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining, the CDP serves as the primary roadmap for translating corporate social responsibility commitments into actionable programs and measurable outcomes. The plan typically covers sectors such as education, health, livelihood diversification, infrastructure, capacity building, and local enterprise development. It is developed collaboratively with community members, local authorities, and other stakeholders through participatory needs assessments and planning workshops, ensuring that community priorities drive the agenda rather than the mining company's assumptions. The CDP includes specific objectives, target beneficiary groups, activity timelines, budget allocations, performance indicators, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks. It aligns with national development priorities and international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards and the Mining Association's towards Responsible Mining (IRMA) standards. The plan is reviewed annually and updated to reflect project changes, community feedback, and evolving social conditions, making it a living document throughout the mine's operational lifecycle.
