Conveyor Belt

A conveyor belt is a continuous loop of flexible, reinforced material — typically composed of multiple plies of fabric (nylon, polyester, or steel cord) encased in rubber — that is driven by motorised pulleys to transport bulk materials such as ore, crushed rock, concentrate, or overburden from one location to another within or between mine processing facilities. Conveyor belts are indispensable to the efficient bulk material handling systems of bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining operations, offering a mechanised alternative to truck haulage that delivers lower unit operating costs per tonne over fixed distances, reduced fuel consumption, lower labour requirements, and continuous operation capability. In iron ore operations, conveyor belts may span tens of kilometres, linking pit operations to processing plants and export ports. Bauxite mines use conveyor systems to transport ore from the face to crushers and rail loading facilities. Gold and diamond plants rely on enclosed conveyor galleries to minimise dust and protect product from contamination. Belt specifications — including width, speed, tensile strength, belt rating, and cover compound — must be matched to the specific material characteristics including particle size, bulk density, abrasiveness, moisture content, and temperature. Proper belt tracking, tensioning, cleaning, and splicing are fundamental to safe and reliable conveyor operation.
