Conveyor Loading

Conveyor loading refers to the process by which mined or processed material is transferred onto a conveyor belt from a feeding source such as a crusher, screen, hopper, bin, truck dump, or another conveyor. In mining operations — including bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining — proper conveyor loading is essential to maximise throughput efficiency, minimise belt damage, and prevent material spillage. The loading zone is one of the most mechanically demanding areas of any conveyor system, as it is the point where impact forces from falling material are greatest. Key considerations in conveyor loading include material drop height, the angle of material impact on the belt, the use of impact cradles or impact idlers to absorb shock, and the installation of skirtboards and sealing systems to contain material. For bauxite mining, the cohesive and sometimes wet nature of the ore can cause blockages at the loading point. In gold mining, fines and dust generated at the loading zone must be managed carefully to prevent loss of valuable material. In iron ore mining, the massive tonnage rates require robust, high-capacity loading systems with carefully engineered chute geometry. In diamond mining, loading configurations must protect ore integrity to avoid fracturing diamonds embedded in kimberlite or alluvial material. Load cell systems and belt scales are commonly installed at loading points to monitor feed rates and ensure consistent throughput.
