A crusher circuit is the integrated system of equipment, conveyors, screens, and associated infrastructure through which mined ore is progressively reduced in size to meet downstream processing requirements. In gold, iron ore, bauxite, and diamond mining operations, crusher circuits may be configured as open or closed circuits depending on the required product size and ore characteristics. A typical crusher circuit includes primary crushing (often a jaw or gyratory crusher), secondary crushing (usually a cone crusher), and sometimes tertiary or quaternary crushing stages. Screens are used between stages to classify material and return oversized particles for further reduction. Closed-circuit crushing recirculates oversize material back to the crusher, improving size consistency and product quality. Crusher circuit design is a critical determinant of overall plant throughput, energy consumption, and downstream mill performance. Effective circuit management requires balancing feed rates, screen efficiencies, and crusher settings.
