Crusher Operation

Crusher operation refers to the management and control of all activities associated with the running of crushing equipment within a mining processing plant. In bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining operations, effective crusher operation is fundamental to achieving target throughput, product size specifications, and equipment longevity. Operators are responsible for monitoring feed rates, crusher load (power draw), closed-side setting (CSS), oil temperatures, bearing temperatures, vibration levels, and product size distribution. Modern crushers are increasingly equipped with automated control systems and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) platforms that provide real-time performance data and enable remote adjustment of key operating parameters. Sound crusher operation involves identifying and responding to operational upsets such as tramp iron ingestion, feed segregation, overloading, and bridging. Operators must also coordinate with upstream and downstream processes to maintain consistent material flow through the plant. Training, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and competency assessments are essential components of safe and efficient crusher operation.
