High Efficiency Thickener

A High Efficiency Thickener is an advanced solid-liquid separation device widely used in bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining operations to increase the concentration of mineral slurries and recover process water. It is designed to accelerate the settling of fine particles through the use of flocculants, specialized feed systems, and optimized tank geometry. Compared with conventional thickeners, high-efficiency thickeners achieve greater underflow densities, improved water recovery, and reduced operating costs.

In mining operations, ore processing generates large volumes of slurry containing finely ground mineral particles suspended in water. The thickener receives this slurry and allows solids to settle to the bottom while clarified water rises to the surface. Rakes slowly move the settled solids toward a central discharge point where the thickened material is removed. The recovered water is typically recycled back into the processing plant, reducing freshwater consumption.

In bauxite processing, high-efficiency thickeners are used to concentrate red mud and recover caustic liquor. In gold mining, they are commonly employed before cyanide leaching and tailings disposal. Iron ore concentrators use them to dewater concentrates and tailings, while diamond recovery plants utilize them to recycle process water and manage fine waste materials.

The technology offers numerous benefits, including increased plant throughput, lower energy consumption, improved tailings management, and reduced environmental impact. Modern high-efficiency thickeners are often equipped with automated control systems that monitor bed levels, underflow density, and flocculant dosage to maximize performance and operational reliability.
