Mobile plant refers to processing, screening, or material handling equipment that, while performing functions similar to fixed plant infrastructure, is mounted on a movable chassis or skid base so it can be repositioned as mining or stockpiling requirements change. This category includes mobile crushing and screening units, mobile conveyor systems, mobile washing plants, and portable sample preparation facilities. Mobile plant offers operational flexibility that fixed installations cannot, allowing operators to bring processing capability closer to extraction faces, respond quickly to changes in ore characteristics or production schedules, and avoid the substantial capital investment and lead time associated with constructing permanent processing infrastructure. In alluvial diamond mining, mobile washing and screening plants are frequently used to process gravel directly at or near extraction sites along riverbeds or terraces, where deposits may be discontinuous and require plant relocation. Bauxite and iron ore operations often use mobile screening plants to grade material by size before stockpiling or blending for shipment. Mobile plant must comply with the same safety, environmental, and engineering design standards as fixed installations, and is subject to regular inspection given the additional stresses imposed by relocation and varying ground conditions.
