In bauxite operations, a beneficiation plant may focus on washing and desliming ore ahead of alumina refining, while iron ore beneficiation plants are often large-scale facilities incorporating crushing, screening, gravity, and magnetic separation circuits to produce sinter fines, lump ore, or pellet feed. Gold beneficiation plants typically house comminution circuits feeding into gravity concentration and cyanidation processes, and diamond beneficiation plants are purpose-built around dense media separation and recovery technologies designed for gentle handling of gem-quality stones. The design, capacity, and configuration of a beneficiation plant are determined during the feasibility stage of a project based on ore characteristics, throughput targets, and economic considerations, and the plant represents one of the largest capital investments in the overall mine development.
