Ore loading refers to the physical operation of transferring mined or stockpiled ore onto transport vehicles, including haul trucks, rail wagons, conveyor systems, or ships, for movement to the next stage in the production or export chain. At the mine face, loading is typically performed using excavators, front-end loaders, or shovels that place ore directly into haul trucks for transport to the processing plant or stockpile. At ports, ore loading for export, especially for bulk commodities such as iron ore and bauxite, is performed using specialized ship loaders that move material from stockyards onto bulk carrier vessels at very high rates, often tens of thousands of tonnes per hour, through traveling conveyor and chute systems. Loading operations must be carefully managed to control dust generation, prevent contamination between different ore grades or stockpiles, and ensure accurate measurement of loaded tonnage for contractual and royalty purposes. In gold and diamond mining, loading procedures for high-value material in its earlier, unrefined stages often include additional security measures, such as sealed containers and controlled access areas, to reduce the risk of theft during transfer between processing stages.
