Yield Forecast

A Yield Forecast in mining is a structured prediction of the volume, grade, and quality of saleable or refined product that is expected to be produced from a defined ore body or mining area over a specific period. Yield forecasts are essential planning tools in bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining and are constructed using geological block models, resource estimates, historical metallurgical test work, plant performance data, and statistical recovery models. In gold mining, a yield forecast will project the expected ounces of gold produced per tonne of ore processed based on head grade, recovery rates, and plant throughput. In bauxite, forecasts predict alumina-recoverable content after accounting for reactive silica and processing losses. In iron ore operations, yield forecasts estimate saleable tonnes of product at specified iron content and impurity levels. In diamond mining, forecasts predict carat output per hundred tonnes of kimberlite processed. Accurate yield forecasting is critical for revenue planning, contract obligations, investor reporting, and operational scheduling. Forecasts are regularly updated to reflect actual performance and revised geological interpretations, ensuring alignment between mine plans and financial projections.
