Basin Drainage

The engineered system managing the flow of surface water and groundwater within and around a mining basin or catchment area. Basin drainage design aims to control runoff, prevent flooding of active mining areas, reduce erosion, and minimise contamination of natural watercourses. In open cut bauxite and iron ore mines, drainage channels, sumps, and pumping systems direct water away from the pit floor, ensuring stable working conditions and compliance with environmental water management standards.
