Binder Addition

The incorporation of bonding agents into mineral products during agglomeration, pelletisation, or paste fill preparation to improve physical strength and handling characteristics. Common binders include bentonite clay, cement, lime, and polymeric binders. In iron ore pelletisation, binders improve green pellet strength for handling through induration. In paste fill for underground mining, cement is added to provide structural strength. Binder type and dosage are optimised through testwork to achieve required product properties at minimum cost.
