Blast Hole Drill
A large drilling machine designed to bore production blast holes in open pit mines using rotary or percussive drilling mechanisms. Blast hole drills are among the largest and most critical pieces of mining equipment. They operate on the bench surface, drilling holes to the required depth and diameter specified by the blast design. Modern blast hole drills are equipped with GPS positioning, depth control, and inclinometers for precision drilling. In large iron ore and gold mines, multiple drills operate in parallel to maintain blast cycle rates for production continuity.
